Nnamdi Kanu: There was evidence – Lawyer counters court over DSS

Aloy Ejimakor, the legal advisor to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), disputed the recent decision of the Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday.

Ejimakor asserted that despite the court’s ruling, Kanu’s legal team had presented a substantial amount of evidence. This statement came after Justice James Omotosho had dismissed Kanu’s N1 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services (DSS) the previous day.

The judge concluded that there was no proof that the DSS had hindered Kanu from consulting his lawyers while in their custody. Justice Omotosho also stated that Kanu had not provided convincing evidence to support his claim that the DSS and its Director General, Yusuf Bichi, had violated his fundamental rights.

In response to the ruling, Kanu, represented by his lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, had filed the lawsuit against the Nigerian government, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the DSS, and Yusuf Bichi, accusing them of denying him access to legal representation. The case was filed under the originating summons marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1633/2023, dated December 4, 2023, and filed the same day, where Kanu sought N1 billion in damages.

Ejimakor expressed his intention to challenge Justice Omotosho’s decision, stating, “I am already preparing the notice of appeal. The evidence submitted before the court was extensive, with some of it already public knowledge.”
