PDP Leader Criticizes Cross River Governor for Unbalanced Appointments
A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Ambassador Ojong Agbor, has counseled the State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, against what he called lopsided political appointments.
Agbor said a cursory look at the appointments made by the Governor into boards, agencies and parastatals indicated that the Southern Senatorial District district of the State was overloaded, hence his concern.
In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Agbor urged the Governor to ensure fairness, equity and justice among the three Senatorial Districts in the State.
He said in the statement titled; “A passionate appeal to think Cross River beyond Southern Cross River,” read;
“I am writing to you today as a concerned citizen of our dear State to urge you to lead our state with fairness, equity, and transparency.
“A cursory glance at your appointments into boards, agencies and parastatals indicates that the southern senatorial district of the state is overloaded hence my passionate appeal. Your Excellency may take a look at these appointments as released.
“Appointments in Southern Senatorial District are Chairmen, Forestry Commission, Civil Service Commission, State Assembly commission, State Universal Basic Education Board, Internal Revenue Services, Scholarship Board, Science and Technical Education Board, Local Government Service Commission, Library Board, Border Commission, State Independent Electoral Commission and Vice chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the State Planning Commission.
“Others are; Accountant General, Executive Secretary of Science and Technical Education, Director Generals of Due Process, Tourism, State Emergency Management Agency, Bureau, Rector of Cross River College of Education, State Auditor General, Surveyor General and many others.

“As you continue to serve in your position, I implore you to avoid nepotism and favoritism in your decision-making processes.
“Our state is blessed with diverse talents and skills, and it is essential that you tap into this wealth of resources to drive progress and development. Nepotism not only undermines the principles of meritocracy but also creates an environment of mistrust and resentment among citizens.
“Therefore, I urge you to ensure that all state contracts and projects are awarded through transparent and competitive bidding processes, foster all inclusive and diverse administration that reflects the makeup of our state, establish clear policies and procedures to prevent conflicts of interest and nepotism.
“By leading without nepotism, you will promote fairness and justice in the administration of our state, encourage citizens to participate in the democratic process, knowing that their talents and contributions are valued, attract investors and businesses that thrive in transparent and corruption-free environments and leave a lasting legacy of integrity and accountability for future generations.”
