Sep 17, 2024

Ahead of Saturday September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the Nigeria Police Force has trained about 500 officers and men in the state command.

The training according to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin-Iwo was to prepare the officers on the management and oversight of the governorship election in the state.

The commissioner, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Adepegba Adetoye, urged the officers to focus intently on the training so that they could effectively relay their acquired knowledge to their colleagues, thereby contributing to a peaceful electoral process.

Iwo, while praising the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for organising the training, emphasised that it would provide the officers with essential insights into electoral matters, ensuring a peaceful and credible election

He further encouraged the officers to engage fully with the trainers, highlighting that “no knowledge is wasted” and that the information they gain during the training will be invaluable during the election.

Johnson Ateghie, who leads the GTA consulting firm responsible for the training, previously stated that the Inspector General of Police has sanctioned the training program aimed at enhancing the skills of officers and personnel assigned for the election.

He said:”The primary objective of this training is to guarantee that officers are adequately prepared to oversee the security of the election, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and that there is no discrimination or intimidation, thereby maintaining order during the electoral process.

“This will help ensure that the election results are deemed acceptable by all parties involved.”
